A decision by Donald Trump and his inner circle to challenge the authority of a federal judge is getting a big thumbs down from a conservative lawyer who is most notable for writing the controversial “Torture Memos” while in the George W. Bush administration.
According to a report from Axios, John Yoo, who serves as the Emanuel S. Heller Professor of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, expressed dismay over the administration’s fight with U.S. District Judge James Boasberg for defying a court order.
On Sunday morning, retired conservative judge J. Michael Luttig wrote in the New York Times that the Trump administration is in for a world of hurt if it continued to butt heads with the judiciary and Yoo, during an appearance on Fox News Digita,l expressed the same concerns.

According to Yoo, he thinks there are those in the president’s inner circle who are itching for a fight and they are not serving the president well.
As he explained, “I worry that there might be some people in the administration who would actually like to defy a judicial order. Which I think would be a terrible mistake.”
The Trump ally cautioned, “If the courts can’t render reliable decisions, then our legal system doesn’t function. If our legal system doesn’t function, the country is in really bad shape.”
