An enraged Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) again lashed out at Senate Democrats over what she called Friday evening an “inexplicable abdication.”
Ocasio-Cortez begged Democrats on Thursday to reject the GOP’s stopgap funding bill, calling it a “bad idea” and a “tremendous mistake” if Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) voted for cloture.
But Schumer said he would support the stopgap bill to avoid a fate “even worse,” a government shutdown that he thought would play right into Elon Musk and DOGE’s hands.
“My job as leader is to lead the party, and if there’s going to be danger in the near future, to protect the party,” Schumer told CNN’s Jake Tapper after the vote. “And I’m proud I did it. I knew I did the right thing, and I knew there would be some disagreements. That’s how it always is.”

While she didn’t call out Schumer by name, Ocasio-Cortez unloaded on the 10 Senate Democrats who she felt betrayed their House counterparts.
“Among the material devastation to everyday people, Senate Dems have now blown a hole in their ability to work with the House. We had an agreed upon plan, House took immense risk, then Senate turned around midway and destroyed it w/ a fear-based, inexplicable abdication. They own what happens next,” railed Ocasio-Cortez on Bluesky.
In a separate post, she took aim at Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) who also voted in favor of the bill — and dared her to come after him.
“My YES vote is *not* an endorsement of this deeply flawed CR. My YES vote is [100 percent] about refusing to shut our government down. I refuse to punish working families and plunge millions of Americans into chaos. I will never, ever, ever, ever, ever vote to shut our government down,” a defiant Fetterman, who has cozied up to Trump in recent months, wrote on Bluesky.
To which Ocasio-Cortez retorted, “Cool so what happens if GOP attach a national abortion ban to a CR? You’ll vote for that too?” She added an emoji of a person tossing trash into a waste bin.
