Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, has demanded that the Justice Department prosecutors who oversaw Donald Trump’s cases appear for questions.
Politico reported Tuesday that Jordan requested Attorney General Pam Bondi help him out by ensuring one current and one former staffer speak to the committee. Both individuals worked for special counsel Jack Smith, whom Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed to oversee two federal cases involving Trump after his first term in office.
“Their testimony is vital to our investigation into how the Biden-Harris Administration weaponized the Justice Department for political purposes and misused federal law-enforcement resources,” Jordan said in his letter. “We share your commitment to restoring accountability and transparency to the Department and we respectfully request the Department’s cooperation with this matter.”

He also wants to recall David Weiss to speak to the committee for a second time about his federal investigation into President Joe Biden’s son Hunter. Jordan claims the final report left him with outstanding questions.
Jordan is also adding to the list that he wants to hear testimony from a former Justice Department employee in California who led the prosecution of Republican Rep. Jeff Fortenberry, who was convicted of lying to the FBI. That conviction was then overturned, and the case was transferred to Washington, D.C. The Trump DOJ then dropped the case.
“Rather than working collaboratively with us, the Biden-Harris DOJ dictated unilateral and severe scope limitations on our fact-finding and directed Department witnesses appearing before the Committee to not answer questions on the vast majority of topics,” complained Jordan.
“Fulfilling our oversight is critical to ensuring that the Committee can appropriately consider legislative reforms to improve the rule of law and address potential conflicts of interest such as those present in the prosecution of Hunter Biden,” he claimed.
Jordan has a list of others he wants to testify about what Republicans have called “weaponization.”
Trump threatened retribution against his critics during the election. He specifically cited those in federal law enforcement, like the FBI, who enforced a subpoena on Trump’s residence at his Florida country club, Mar-a-Lago.
Speaking before the DOJ last week, Trump outlined his plan for payback of prosecutors and those he claims targeted him.
“And House Republicans like Jordan have suggested they will leverage their power to investigate his perceived enemies,” the report said.
