Hundreds of popular camping sites in the crucial presidential swing state of Pennsylvania have been shuttered thanks to cuts enacted by billionaire Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that cuts at Raystown Lake, which is managed by the Army Corps of Engineers, mean that there will no longer be enough staff to maintain campsites.
Rather, remaining staff at the Lake will concentrate primarily on “dam operations for flood protection and emergency response readiness.”
More than 300 campsites at the lake will be closed until further notice, and the Inquirer notes that an additional 125 campsites will be closed at the Tompkins Campground in Tioga County thanks to Musk and his DOGE minions.

“Avid campers know that lakefront campsites are difficult to obtain in the summer, in Pennsylvania and beyond, and many are reserved well in advance of the season,” the Inquirer notes. “According to the Army Corps, refunds would be provided to campers who made reservations through Recreation.gov.”
Musk has gone on a tear in recent weeks by firing tens of thousands of federal employees, and has even had to scramble to hire some of them — including nuclear weapons safety and maintenance personnel — after realizing that they were important for national security.
