President Donald Trump has already fumbled two issues that were crucial to his re-election after less than 100 days on the job, according to a report on voter sentiments.
The president’s approval rating on the economy and immigration suggest that voters agreed with his campaign pitch but have been alarmed with his actions on both issues, and an Axios analysis found that this disconnect could collapse the fundamental pillars of his political brand.
“Trump’s greatest assets — tough on borders, sharp on business — are becoming liabilities,” Axios reported. “That’s a major red flag for a president whose chaotic style is only tolerated when it delivers results.”

Trump’s polling on the economy tumbled to his lowest ratings ever, with just 37 percent approval in a Reuters/Ipsos poll and 40 percent approval in a Pew Research Center survey, and a majority of Americans told Gallup pollsters that their own economic situation was worsening.
“Despite a sealed-off border and a wave of high-profile deportations,” Axios reported, “Trump is now barely above water on his best issue, according to an average of polls by data journalist G. Elliott Morris.”
Trump’s immigration approval rating has dropped 10 points in the last week, down to 45 percent in a new YouGov/Economist poll, and he has lost virtually all the support he gained on the issue during Joe Biden’s presidency.
Half of respondents in the YouGov poll agreed Trump should return Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an immigrant living legally in Maryland who was mistakenly renditioned to El Salvador, while just 28 percent said he should remain there despite court orders requiring the administration to “facilitate” his return.
