According to Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT), enough has come out about Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s performance so far that alarm should be raised about how he will react during an emergency.
During an appearance on MSNBC Thursday, the Democratic lawmaker was asked about new reports of Hegseth not only sharing sensitive details about military operations with his wife and lawyer, but also having the questionable Signal app installed on his Pentagon computer.
Speaking with the MSNBC panel and “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski, Himes said, “The thing that’s horrifying, and I think everybody in D.C. knows this, is that the secretary of defense is arguably the hardest job in D.C.”

“You’re sitting on top of 3 million people, a sprawling bureaucracy by the way, you do lethal stuff every single day,” he elaborated. “Pete Hegseth is just way, way out of his depth. There’s, as you point out, zero accountability; any officer who had done any of this stuff would have been retired unceremoniously and so you’re sending a message of accountability doesn’t matter to a group of people who carry weapons, who drive aircraft, who are, you know, maneuvering ships in very dangerous areas.”
“And by the way we, again … no crisis, right?” he said. “What happens when North Korea is fueling a nuclear missile and the president says to Pete Hegseth, ‘What’s happening and what should I do?’ What happens when there’s a terrorist attack on one of our embassies? And Pete Hegseth with his American flag, you know, coat lining is, you know, doing rhymes in the White House, ” he joked.
“This is, you know, again, we’re not in crisis right now, but the secretary of defense needs to be prepared, to lead and give good advice in a crisis. and Pete Hegseth can’t get through a day without three ridiculous headlines,” he added.
