Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA) insisted that House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) was “out of order” during a hearing about government spending.
“Mr. Chairman, I just want to say our federal budget reflects our values,” Lynch explained at Wednesday’s hearing. “When we fund the VA, so it’s not just about numbers, it’s about the mission and the purpose of our budget.”
“You do understand our federal budget is $2.5 trillion in debt,” Comer interrupted.
“You don’t get to just interject, Mr. Chairman,” Lynch noted.
“You know what? I think you’ve already spoken, so you’re out of order,” Comer insisted.
Lynch, however, noted that he was speaking on behalf of another member.

“I borrowed somebody else’s time,” he said. “And I will speak.”
“Well, speak!” Comer bellowed.
“I asked to restore the time,” Lynch demanded. “Give me five minutes.”
“You can talk all you want,” the chairman replied. “I want everyone in America to see how much opposition you all have to get around and get the fiscal order here.”
“You’re out of order!” Lynch shouted. “You’re chairman, and you’re out of order!”
